BRONZE RESTORATION

With proper care, Bronze sculpture is designed to last for many generations.  If you ignore the responsibility of care, the beauty of your sculpture will be short-lived.

Deterioration:  Can be caused by many factors. Climate, acid rain, airborne pollutants, insects, birds, tree saps, and even people contribute to the deterioration of copper.

Care of Bronze Artwork:  If your sculpture was created in the U.S. and cast within the last
30 years, it is likely composed of silicon bronze, which is an alloy containing 95% copper, 4% silicon, and 1% manganese.  As this bronze alloy is quite high in copper content, it will tend to darken faster and age to a bluish-green coloration.  This coloration process will be faster than other bronze alloys produced more than 30 years ago, which often contained 85% copper on average.  Cleaning and waxing, without this knowledge, and the use of incorrect tools and procedures could cause permanent damage to your artwork.  A proper maintenance schedule needs to be established in order to preserve and extend the life of bronze pieces.

Solution:  Building Restoration, Inc. will provide our expertise in repairing, maintaining, and preserving your valuable bronze artwork.  Our experience is unsurpassed in this area.
